Official languages in spain

Article 3 of the spanish constitution recognizes that the wealth of different linguistic patterns in spain is a cultural heritage that is the object of special respect and protection, while establishing that spanish is the official language of the State and that all spaniards have the duty to know and the right to use it.
On the other hand, this same article states that the other languages may also be spanish records in the autonomous communities in accordance with their respective Statutes. This is a constitutional provision has been made in the statute of the Basque Country, with regard to the basque; in catalonia, catalan and occitan/aranes; in Galicia, in respect of galician; in the valencia region, with regard to the valencian; in Navarra, in respect of the basque language in the geographic area delimited in the relevant act; and Illes Balears, in respect of catalan.
To address this special feature, with a spanish cultural and social reality in which a high percentage of people lies in territories where more than one language is spoken, both the autonomous communities such as the General state administration operate in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution. That is, to promote respect and protection of the spanish linguistic plurality and ensuring the rights of its people; and that as a factor giving rise to cultural wealth, social and economic issues.
In order to implement this policy, the General state administration has an inter-ministerial coordinating body, the council of the official languages in the General state administration, which is said to have analysis functions momentum and coordination of the activity of the various ministerial departments in relation to the use of the official languages, with the aim of achieving better implementation of the requirements arising from the existence of various official languages and their recognition in the activity of the General state administration, and thus ensure better care for citizens' rights.
In this process for the promotion and protection, spain has ratified the european charter for regional or minority languages, aided in the framework of the council of europe, which represents its participation in a process of evaluation through the provision of periodic reports of monitoring and verification of compliance with the commitments made with its ratification.
